Rees Algebras of Truncations of Complete Intersections
In this paper we describe the defining equations of the Rees algebra and the special fiber ring of a truncation I of a complete intersection ideal in a polynomial ring over a field with homogeneous maximal ideal m. To describe explicitly the Rees algebra R(I) in terms of generators and relations we map another Rees ring R(M) onto it, where M is the direct sum of powers of m. We compute a Gröbne...
متن کاملBipartite Graphs Whose Edge Algebras Are Complete Intersections
Let R be monomial sub-algebra of k[x1, . . . , xN ] generated by square free monomials of degree two. This paper addresses the following question: when is R a complete intersection? For such a k-algebra we can associate a graph G whose vertices are x1, . . . , xN and whose edges are {(xi, xj)|xixj ∈ R}. Conversely, for any graph G with vertices {x1, . . . , xN} we define the edge algebra associ...
متن کاملCorrigendum: Generalizations of graded Clifford algebras and of complete intersections
A correction is provided for Proposition 3.5 in the article “Generalizations of Graded Clifford Algebras and of Complete Intersections”. The correction is: if S is a skew polynomial ring on finitely many generators of degree one that are normal elements in S, and if I is a homogeneous ideal of S that is generated by a normalizing sequence, then dimk(S/I) is finite if and only if S/I has no poin...
متن کاملCriteria for complete intersections
We establish two criteria for certain local algebras to be complete intersections. These criteria play an important role in A. Wiles’s proof that all semi-stable elliptic curves over Q are modular. Introduction In this paper we discuss two results in commutative algebra that are used in A. Wiles’s proof that all semi-stable elliptic curves over Q are modular [11]. We first fix some notation tha...
متن کاملComplete Intersections in Toric Ideals
We present examples which show that in dimension higher than one or codimension higher than two, there exist toric ideals IA such that no binomial ideal contained in IA and of the same dimension is a complete intersection. This result has important implications in sparse elimination theory and in the study of the Horn system of partial differential equations.
